Jerry Luftman’s prominent career combines his expertise as a CIO/practitioner, management consultant, and academic leader. Renowned for his mastery in business-IT alignment and global digital trends, Dr. Luftman has authored 19 books, contributed extensively to academic research, and excelled at management consulting, coaching/mentoring, teaching, and public speaking - hallmarks of his exceptional leadership.

After a distinguished 22-year career at IBM (where he was among the strategic leaders of the IBM Palisades Executive Education Center, CIO, and responsible for the successful launch of many landmark products), Dr. Luftman transitioned to a celebrated 20-year tenure at Stevens Institute of Technology. There, he was Professor, founder, and Associate Dean of the Information Systems programs - acknowledged as one of the largest globally.

Recognizing the need for executive education in managing digital transformation, Dr. Luftman established the Global Institute for IT Management (GIIM). By leveraging his extensive experience and robust network of leading academics and IT practitioners, he developed an innovative suite of 35 digital management programs encompassing over 150 courses. GIIM partners with affiliates (e.g., companies, universities, management associations) to offer full degrees, certifications, postgraduate diplomas, and customized workshops and seminars tailored to organizational needs.

Dr Luftman's project experience ranges from executive management strategies and considerations through tactical implementation. He also serves on the Executive Board of several companies, management and academic associations, and publications.

Dr. Luftman’s last responsibility at IBM, after being a CIO, was a prominent speaker at IBMs Customer Executive Conference Center in Palisades, N.Y.  While responsible for management research, he played a significant role in defining and introducing the IT Strategy and Planning, and Business Process Re-engineering practice methods for the IBM Management Consulting Group.

His framework for applying the strategic alignment model is essential in helping clients comprehend, define, and scope the appropriate strategic planning approaches to pursue. Dr. Luftman’s annual global IT trends research, sponsored by several CIO associations and universities, is recognized internationally as an industry barometer.

Dr. Luftman Being Interviewed

"To become a leader, what have you done to inspire the people that you are associated with to want to listen to you?"

"You can be the best technologist in the world, but if you cannot effectively convey how to leverage technology and lead initiatives that deploy the technology, it just doesn’t matter. The big salaries go to those who can collaborate with non-IT executives in leveraging technology to provide demonstrable business value.”

"Managing change is an art, NOT a technology."

"Transformation is inevitable, and meant to be difficult and likely discomforting, perhaps even painful.  Preparation is essential."

"With the transformational influence that digitalization is having across every industry and every business around the globe, there is no better career for the foreseeable future than one related to IT."
